Finally, an update!
February 18th, 2007

Hola Amigos! I haven't updated our website in a long time but if you've been tuned into MySpace you know I've been sending out regular updates. So here we are in 2007 now and still no Strange Dick. It's hasn't been tossed just put on the backburner for a bit. We all hope that it will be done soon. I couldn't tell you when but I think even Axl Rose is saying "Damn, you guys take a long time to put out a record!".

A lot of people have been reviewing tracks from Strange Dick on Garageband.com. I am really happy with the comments so far. It's great to get a completely unbiased review our stuff. In fact, today Peezlee is the Pop Punk Track Of The Day! I have been noticing more and more hits on our MySpace page as well so as long as people still give a shit and are listening I am happy. Hopefully, you will be rewarded very shortly with a brand spanking new Strange Dick upside your head!

Also, our engineer and unofficial 4th member, Steve Blake and Toad Hall Studios, will be putting out a compilation soon and WKS will contribute Fuck Or Fight from Strange Dick. We look forward to seeing the finished product and there will also be a show to promote it, details which will be coming soon!

One other note, You Got Owned has been dropped from the album. It's a song I still think sounds really good but just not on this record. It will pop up elsewhere though. I will make sure of it. ;)

So that's all I got for now. Keep checking in on MySpace and we will have something for everyone shortly.

Cheers,
DW

We're almost there...seriously.
September 10th , 2006

Hey kids! Sorry I haven't updated the site lately. We have still been very busy. Only been updating the myspace page. You should go there if you haven't already. We now have 4 songs from the new album posted: Truro, Dick LeBone, Peezlee and Hey Joe. There's a LOT more good stuff on the record. We are all tremendously pleased with how it's coming along. By the way, do you like the cover art on the splash page?

We have also been trying to promote Strange Dick as much as our time and money allow. Don't be too surprised if you happen to hear some songs of ours on the local music radio shows soon. Call in and request WKS!

It looks like the album will be ready sometime in November. Much later than we expected but the result is much better than we expected as well. There will be some shows too. You can count on it.

We would love to hear from our peeps so stop by the myspace page and leave us some comments.

Rock on,
Doug

New song now posted!
April 23rd, 2006

We have just posted Dick LeBone: Private Eye from the soon to be released album Strange Dick up on our MySpace page. There are also some new studio pics as well. Enjoy!

Just got back from the east coast and another couple of days in the studio. We have put the basics down for 3 new songs, Fuck Or Fight, You Got Owned and Letters To Richard. We wanted to give the album a bit more substance and these 3 songs balance the record out nicely. We should be wrapping this up during the summer and then the packaging and shit will be done after that. So by Xmas I would expect everything to be finished finally. It's going to be great and you won't be disappointed!

New mixes and album name!!!
February 11th, 2006

Just received new mixes of all the latest stuff including a new avant-garde piece by Mick, Liar's Lament. There was some work done on Heavy Crow as well which had a keyboard part added and some phone messages and stuff like that. We may set the record for most phone messages on a record EVER! The way things seem to flow now is really good though. If you liked the off-the-wall mood pieces of Fat End First then expect more of the same. I am feeling like we need a couple more songs with substance in there so we are going to try and record two more songs in April when I head back east. That is going to be a busy week. We need to get the photography done for the album artwork and possibly could be playing a show as well.

I know I have been trumpeting this thing for a LONG time. It seems like the never ending project much the way Fat End First was but I really think the end result will be as good or even better than FEF. Bear with us.

It is also time to christen the name of the new record...we christen the....

STRANGE DICK!!!!!

You were expecting something normal? So look for Strange Dick to be out this summer. I will post fully mastered previews as soon as I can.

Cheers,
Doug

Done In By The Turks!!!
December 22nd, 2005

Our message board got severely hacked over the weekend to the point where I couldn't even fix it. So unfortunately, everyone will need to re-apply to the board. The good news is it is now more secure and we didn't have that many posts to lose anyways! Let's build this thing back up! Fuck the Turks!!!

In other news, I am headed back east to work on the mixes for the new record with the other guys. We should have 5 songs in the bag by the time I get back. Finally some progress!!!

Oh, and Merry fucking Xmas (I am too lazy to type out Christ!).

Our Gay Space
September 4th , 2005

I created a page for the band on myspace.com. Yes, I was bored this weekend. Please be our "friend". We'll take all we can get.

Here's the link.

Finally!!! An Update!!!
August 7, 2005

Hey! We're not dead! Not only that but we have some news as well!

I have just returned to the Midwest after my trip back to good ol' Massachusetts. The three of us were able to get together for a day down at Toad Hall. We spent our time cleaning up a bunch of vocals and adding some ear candy. We focused on the 5 tunes that we had on one reel, Truro, Surburban Freak, Peezlee, Dick LeBone and Hey Joe. Those tunes, aside from some last minute guitar work from Rich, are ready to mix.

This record is actually a hybrid, half is being recorded to analog tape and half is being recorded to hard disk. Unfortunately, we picked a bad time to try to do an all analog recording due to the shortage of tape that was going on when we started this record. We could get another reel now and go back and re-record the stuff that's on the hard disk but I feel like most people won't know the difference. If it's done right, you won't be able to tell.

So this is just a little note to let everyone know that we are still alive and getting closer to the end and we hope to have something for people to hear soon.

Also, I just noticed that the first update on this new site was exactly one year ago today just before we started recording this new album. See, I told you we don't work fast!

How's Your Retirement Plan?
May 28, 2005

Some sound financial advice from your pal, Rich Maliska:

If you bought $1000 of Nortel stock a year ago, it would now be worth $49. With Enron, you would have $16.50 left of the original $1,000.
With  WorldCom,you would have less than $5 left.

Now, if you bought $1,000 worth of Schaefer (the beer, not the stock) over the past year, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling price, you would have $214.

Based on these figures, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. This is my new retirement program. I call it my 401Keg.

Wedding/Recording Review
May 9, 2005

As I embarked on my first ever 2 week vacation, I had one goal in mind...to make sure I got my money worth. So I grabbed two 30 packs (one Old Style and one Special Export), my drums, guitar, microKORG and hit the road east to Chez Dolbear, the practice space. We were able to get a couple of practices in before the wedding, which makes me think how bad we would've been of we didn't practice. But we did OK in the face of adversity. Bad weather. Crooked dance floor. No Schaefer. Somehow, we pulled through. We really like to thank Mike and Traci for putting up with us for 3 days. We also happen to have an audio clip from the performance courtesy of My Buddy Mike (Stanley). A Special send-off for the bride and groom. I know there was a bunch of pics taken as well so anyone who has 'em can post them in the forum.

A few days later we were able to pull our act together and head on down to Toad Hall to record 4 more songs for the record. The big surprise for me was a song we recorded called Parasite Pete. For a song that we pulled together at the last second it really came out amazing. After Fat End First came out I said that we would be lucky to do another record as good as that one. After these 2 weeks, I am starting to feel like that might actually be possible. We've still got a long way to go but we are starting to see the whole package of what we got now. And it's a nice package. A big, bulging package. A rock-hard, gi-normous package. But we still don't have a name for it yet.

Peezlee Is At It Again
March 22, 2005

WKS tried to warn you. We tried to show you the danger but unfortunately he has struck again.

Super-duper Trooper Peezlee (though he spells it Peasley) was on the end of a 9-1-1 call when a bike accident was phoned into emergency. In a slightly more pleasant manner, Trooper Peezlee basically told the witness to the bike accident to get fucked.

One week later, the motorcyclist died from severe head injuries.

According to Connecticut State Police, response time to the accident was not delayed because you know they always make sure they are prompt when someone's life is at stake. They just want you to know that you're bothering them and leave you with the impression that perhaps you'll see an ambulance soon if you're lucky. Now fuck off and have a nice day.

WKS has preached the word about Peezlee before at shows and on our soon to be released album. He has struck again and he must be stopped. Avoid this swine at all costs.

New album update
January 29, 2005

Hey folks! A lot of time has passed since I last updated so I will try to catch everyone up with what has been happening with WKS. Over the holidays, I was back East finishing my vocals for Truro. I took a much different approach to it and I think it paid off. Richie is re-tracking ALL of the guitars to the four songs we currently have on tape. The last session was a bit rushed so he wanted a whole day to put his parts down without looking at the clock. Now I say currently on tape because there is still some talk about putting more songs down. I have a couple songs that I feel are ready and are WKS worthy and I know Mick has one or two as well. My problem is I am out here in Chicago and I don't exactly have easy access to the instruments I need to do this myself. Not to mention, I would MUCH rather do these songs with Rich and Mick. This still needs to be discussed though. I know I will be heading back to Mass. in April with kit in tow so perhaps we can do something then. Again, as soon as I have something worthy for you to sample I will post it here.

And now it's time for the HAMMERHEAD OF THE MONTH AWARD!!!

This month it goes to Richard Kral, a Slovakian who was trapped in his car after an avalanche buried him in his Audi with 60 half-liter beers inside. How did Richard solve his life-threatening predicament? By sucking down those 60 half-liters and pissing his way out to freedom. When they freed the car, they found Fat End First in the CD player!

OK...I made that last part up. Congratulations Richard!

London is a WKS kind of town
November 7th, 2004

Sorry it's been so long without an update. I've been pretty occupied since I last posted. Last week was an action-packed week for myself. I had a business trip to London for the week, which also coincided with the Sox being in the World Series. I didn't get much sleep to say the least. My London workmates took me out a few nights on the town and there was a lot to take in. It's like Chicago with nicer architecture. I scoped out a few of the local clubs I thought WKS could play. One that was by my hotel was the Astoria. On the schedule, I saw that New Model Army was playing there in December. Any place NMA plays at is cool with me. I think I liked that town a little too much. Beers of choice out there were Stella Artois and Kronenberg. No Schaefer to be found but I made do somehow.

On the WKS front, everything is recorded for the 4-song disc except for some of my vocals which have to be polished up and possibly a few extras (horns, various noises, etc..). Those will be done over my Xmas break. I'm excited to hear the finished product. As soon as we have something available, I'll post a sample for everyone here to listen to.

Finally, I just want to say that the independent music world lost a great man while I was out in London, John Peel. I saw a lot of documentaries on John while I was having my battles with insomnia out there and I have a tremendous amount of respect for what he accomplished in the music world. He would listen to every demo tape and CD that bands would send in to the station for him to hear. Why would he torture himself like that? Because he was deathly afraid that he would miss the next great thing. That's awesome. All the while, he had a strong distaste for music commercialism in any form. Always knowing that you have to dig below the corporate crust to unearth the jewels below. RIP John.

A forum of pure action!
September 19, 2004

Lately, I've been spending some of my free time on forums. Mostly, Sons Of Sam Horn because I can't stop talking about the goddamn Red Sox. But now there's a whole new place for all of us to bitch and moan, Dick LeBone's Place! We now have our own forum to talk anything WKS or anything else that's on your mind. Basically, we would like all of our WKS friends to come and post, talk music, politics or whatever else. Just click on the link to the left.

Do you guys do Love Shack?
August 30, 2004

To prove that we truly have insane friends, WKS has been asked to play a wedding. Yes, a wedding. It's for a former bandmate of ours, Traci O'Toole and it will actually be the third one we've done as a group (not for Traci, I mean!). It's rather appropriate because WKS formed out of a band that we were in with Traci and her sister Terri, Tripstick. Hmmm, I really wish I had some of that stuff properly documented. Anyways, the wedding will be in April of 2005. If you're lucky your invite will be in the mail soon.

That gets me thinking of actual "wedding" bands. Where is the line between business and pleasure when you play in those bands? Is there a line at all? Would I even be able to pick up my drumsticks if I new I had to bust into a rippin' 10 minute version of "Celebration"? Many questions that need to be answered here. I suppose if you are able to make a living of it and you have made the appropriate arrangments with Beelzebub then you're in good shape. Now WKS will not be doing "Open Arms" by Journey or "Dancing In The Dark" by the so-called Boss. Hopefully, Traci's guests know this and are OK with it. We also tend to drop the following words when we play as well: fuck, shit, tits, ass, dick (as in LeBone), nuts, bitch and fuck (wait, I said that already).

You've been warned.

Now bachelor parties...those we have done. We are always available for bachelor parties. Tell the strippers they don't need the boombox.

We've got the ca-ca! Pick it up!
August 19, 2004

So tonight I went a little crazy and created the WKS Package Store. Some pretty great stuff there. If any women buy the thong, please send me a picture of you wearing it! It's the kind of stuff I dream about, y'know?

Recording begins
August 18, 2004

Unfortunately, I couldn't update the site from Ma Wedge's so I apologize. On Friday the 13th we laid down the foundation for this as of now untitled recording. Overall, I'm very pleased with the sounds Steve Blake got for us. The main goal was to get the drums down and tight so I wouldn't have to lug my shit back out to Massachusetts and we definitely accomplished that. Typically, I like to go with a snare from the studio because they will know what snare kicks ass and how to get a decent sound for it. The choice for this recording was a 9x14 Ludwig copper/metal I dug out from the back room. Really sounds great. Steve has tons of toys all over the place. We had some extra time so we also put down some vocals as well. I belted out Truro but I may do them over. Not too happy with the verses. Richie said it sounded great so maybe it will stick and I'm just being anal. Everything else was backing stuff and sounds great.

I still am not sure whether or not there will be more songs on this album or not. We had another song we wrote a while ago called Friends Of Bill that we'd like to do but no one has the practice tapes of it and we can't remember how we used to play it. I have other songs I am working on at home that could fit right in as well but who knows. I'd like to get it all out of our system now. To see more photos of the session, check it out here.

That's it for now. More later.
Doug

Back for more!
August 7, 2004

Thought you got rid of us, huh? Well, forget it. This coming week marks the dawn of a new era for WKS. We aren't sure where it will lead, but we are headed down that dark road once again. I'm basically starting this website over from scratch. Luckily, no one pounced on the domain name (shocking, I know!) and right now I'm trying to get something up before I leave for Massachusetts. So this site is coming at you blog style, for now.

So let's review up to this point. We have one full-length disc, Fat End First, which took two years to create and judging from the finished product it was worth the effort. Unfortunately due to kids being born, marriages breaking up, people moving, working to keep our asses afloat, and the never ending quest for the meaning of life, we never had enough time to really support the disc like we should have. We were lucky that some local scribes loved it, it received some sparse airplay and at least had some people talking about it. It's still the best thing I've ever worked on to date.

Fast forward to January 2004 and the three of us are rehearsing for a show at the Lucky Dog. I believe it was then when we decided that we still had some material that needed to be documented properly. We actually had other songs we recorded during the Fat End First sessions that just never got fully completed. If we put out everything we did at that time it would've been a double disc and took four years to finish. So we scrapped some of those songs, we are re-recording two of them, (Peezlee and Surburban Freak), we have one that we wrote after those sessions, (Dick LeBone, Private Eye), and a new song we've written recently, (Truro Is As Far As I'll Go). I'd like to think it will stop there and we'll just put out a 4-song EP. But then I remember that Fat End First was supposed to be just 8 songs and we were to have it wrapped up by the end of the year. Yeah, right. We're doing the basic tracks at Toad Hall again with Steve Blake because the place suits us just fine, thanks. I'd like to get John D'Orto involved again, but he might still be freaked out from working with us the last time. We'll see.

So I've started packing the gear up and on Tuesday I leave for the east coast. I'll try and update this site as the recording goes on. Even if no one looks at the site, I'll have my own diary of it. So there. If anyone would like to pick up a copy of Fat End First you can either email me, or if you like getting shit in the mail you can buy it from amazon.com, or if you like downloading shit you can get it from iTunes, MusicMatch, eMusic, or most other music download sites. Support our drinking problems dammit!!!!!

Later,
Doug
